Meet Al Austin

Al Austin is a proven public servant, longtime labor leader, and former Long Beach City Councilmember who has spent his career solving problems and delivering results for our communities. After serving three terms representing Long Beach's Eighth District, Al was appointed to the Long Beach Board of Public Utilities Commissioners, where he currently works to provide safe, reliable, and affordable water, sewer and gas services to nearly a half million residents.

Throughout his career, Al has fought for working families and quality public services. He began his leadership experience as a UAW aerospace worker at McDonnell Douglas and Boeing, later serving as a District Representative for Senate District 26, Campaign Director for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, and several senior roles with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO (AFSCME), where he serves as a Political and Legislative Director responsible for over 35,000 public service workers across California. He has also served in regional leadership roles with the Gateway Cities Council of Governments and the League of California Cities, building state and regional partnerships that help strengthen communities, improve infrastructure, and deliver results.

Today, Al Austin is running for the Water Replenishment District to improve and protect our valuable water resources, invest in a sustainable future, and ensure Southern California has safe, reliable groundwater for generations to come.
